| Course Overview |
| This course is designed for professionals who are currently working or intend to work in the fields of HIV/AIDS and health promotion/public health management as part of their role and who wish to develop their knowledge and skills. Students will understand the scientific basis of HIV virus and (patho) physiological changes in the human body. They will explore the concept of health, development theories and ideas underpinning health promotion and public health. They will also gain the skills and knowledge necessary to design and manage health promotion projects and analyse more complex issues; such as human rights, project management and voluntary sector organisations. The course is relevant to anyone with an interest in HIV/AIDS health promotion and or/public health and may include development workers, health service managers, academic researchers, nurses, doctors, voluntary workers, and health educators. |

| The course is made of 120 credits, six-modules, at Diploma level. You may also choose free standing modules as part of a Continue Professional Development programme (CPD). |

HEALTH PROMOTION THEORY & PRACTICE This module enables you to explore theories and public health policy that inform health promotion practice and explore relationship between health promotion and public health. HUMAN RIGHTS This module identifies the key strands in the latest HIV/AIDS policy, human rights and legal support mechanisms. PROJECT MANAGEMENT This module will introduce you to design and management of development projects using logical framework analysis and PERT. VOLUNTARY SECTOR MANAGEMENT This module enables you to analyse and develop your own ideas around the topic of fund raising, events organising and management, and apply them to your future work. |

FULL/PART-TIME One or two evenings per week, starting in January, April and September 2008. DURATION One-year LOCATION London ENTRY CRITERIA As entry to the course is at Level 5 (HE2), you will need to have undertaken Certificate level study (Level 4, HE1) to start the programme. |
